Make Estate Planning Your New Year's Resolution 2

Donna Jackson Shares Her Thoughts on Taking the Time to Put Affairs in Order

As 2018 comes to a close, we look back on the busy year and think about things we didn’t have time to accomplish.

One life event that we hope everyone takes time to consider is getting their estate planning affairs in order for this year and the years to come. Most people think of estate planning as a simple will or a health care proxy. There is so much more to estate planning, including making sure children, family, disabled relatives and fur kids will be provided for in the way you see fit.

Documents like a Durable Power of Attorney, Health Care Power of Attorney, HIPAA Authorization, Advance Directive for Health Care, Pour-Over Will, Trust, Special Needs Trust and other types of estate planning options are more than simply a piece of paper.

Estate planning attorneys hope to give you peace of mind in knowing your assets will be distributed by your specific instructions, including who gets what and when people are allowed to receive any assets, and so much more. We are your advocate from the moment you walk in the door to when you pass away. Even after your passing, we are here to provide advice and guidance for the generations to come.

If you’re new to the estate planning world or reviewing your older estate planning documents, we recommend one of our favorite holiday recipes to keep you warm this winter. This hot buttered rum recipe will keep your guests coming back each year and is a perfect drink to sip while talking about how you protected yourself and your family by getting your estate planning completed.
