Jason Wright was only 33 years old when a heart attack took his life.
A member of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, Jason had only been on the force for less than three years when he suffered a cardiac event that left his wife, Lindsay, a widow along with four small children.
The pain of losing her husband was staggering, but with the support of family and friends, along with organizations that offer support to the families of fallen officers, Lindsay was able to rebuild a life without her love. Yet, despite the help along the way, the cost of health care and raising four children meant other concerns were set aside.
Thanks to a passion for giving back to those in need, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons James A. Baker, D.D.S.; Jacob W.B. Mendenhall, D.D.S.; and Peter L. Carlson, D.D.S. of Oklahoma City-OMS are donating dental care to people like Lindsay as a way to give back.
OKC-OMS practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from corrective jaw surgery to wisdom tooth removal. The surgeons can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries and TMJ disorders, and perform a full range of dental implant and bone grafting procedures.
“My children are covered for dental care, but I wasn’t,” says Lindsay, now Lindsay (Wright) Fields. “I have a wisdom tooth that needs removed, several broken teeth and I had a root canal but was never able to get a crown. This will definitely help with the finances and will alleviate the pain and discomfort I’ve had. I can only eat on one side of my mouth, and I think taking care of the oral problems will improve my overall health. I’m really very grateful for this.”
Becoming a widow at such a young age was a shock to Lindsay.
“He left me with four amazing kids, but it was challenging after he passed away. I had never made a decision without him, and we were married really young,” she says. “Trying to figure out my new role was a challenge, and I couldn’t have done it without my family and friends. I had never heard of anyone donating oral surgery specifically for the family of fallen officers, so this is special.”
With four locations in the Oklahoma City metro area, OKC-OMS also performs corrective surgery and TMJ reconstruction.
“We have been very blessed to work with people of all different backgrounds,” Dr. Mendenhall says. “We are in a spot to give back to those in need, and we are blessed that this is one way we can give back. Everyone owes a debt to society; this is one way we can help.”
